A Legacy of Two Centuries
Morne Coubaril Estate has stood at the heart of Soufriere for nearly three centuries, its roots stretching back to the 1740s when it was established as a sugar plantation during St. Lucia's colonial era. Like all Caribbean estates of that period, its history is inseparable from the enslaved Africans whose labour shaped the land. Over generations the estate transitioned, from sugar to coffee, and eventually to the working heritage attraction it is today. That evolution is what makes Morne Coubaril a genuine piece of living history: a place where visitors can explore lush gardens, learn traditional agricultural practices, and engage with all the stories that define St. Lucia's past
